Culture change

“Culture” is our attitudes, beliefs, values and behaviours. When there is a strong safety culture, everyone in the workplace takes a shared approach to safety and they all work together to achieve common goals. The benefits of an effective health and safety culture can include fewer accidents, leading to less lost time, improved wellbeing and job satisfaction and better relationships between management and staff.

Culture has an important part to play in improving health and safety outcomes in the workplace. A positive attitude to health and safety in the workplace helps to ensure that any systems you put in place are likely to be successful. Changing a workplace health and safety culture requires a continual input from everyone, and the board and senior leadership can have a significant influence on this.
