Primary duty of care

The board as a PCBU must ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of anyone who works for it and that no one, eg employees, contractors and volunteers, are put at risk by its work. This is called the primary duty of care.

The board must ensure that any information, training, instruction or supervision necessary is provided to protect everyone from any risks to their health and safety arising from work.

The board must maintain the work environment and monitor conditions as an ongoing process at the workplace for the purpose of preventing worker injuries and illnesses.
