Matters Specifically of Interest to the Area (Composite) Sector
Copies of the collective agreements can be found at Employment Agreements.
As part of the 2005 settlement, it was agreed that the parties would enter into a Longer Term Work Programme (LTWP) for area schools. The purpose of the LTWP is to provide the parties with a forum to properly consider and make recommendations on a range of issues relevant to area school teachers. The NZSTA will fully participate in the work programme to represent board's interests.
This is intended to relate to the other work currently underway in primary and secondary. These work streams include consideration of teacher workloads, career pathways, professional development and the recognition of learning, sabbatical leave, medical retirement, the work environment of teachers and curriculum staffing.
Also, it was agreed to develop a specific work stream to examine the future direction of area schooling and its resourcing requirements. In particular, this workflow will consider:
- Curriculum delivery
- Staffing issues (including recruitment and retention, management and pastoral care), and
- General resourcing, especially as it relates to remoteness.
It is expected that this work will commence shortly and will take into account progress in the respective primary and secondary teachers' workflows. The outcomes of this workflow provided shared information and understandings ahead of the 2007 bargaining round. The workflow discussions will help inform policy work around area schooling and resourcing in the interim.
