Leadership Role Performance Management
This section is specific for boards whose principal has been appointed to a Leadership Role in a Community of Learning|Kāhui Ako.
The board’s policy and process for Leadership Role performance review/appraisal should be clear and understood by the principal, board and governance/stewardship group of the Community of Learning. NZSTA provide a Leadership Role Performance Review Policy Template as a basis for the board to draft its policy.
While processes will largely remain the same as those in the usual Principal Performance Management, there are a few differences:
- The Principal will need to be assessed against the Community of Learning achievement challenges in addition to the usual required board objectives, standards and criteria.
- These will need to be included in the performance agreement objectives. A template performance agreement is available.
- The New Appointments National Panel (NANP) requires access to the performance review report to evaluate whether the principal has continued to meet the National Criteria. The NANP may request additional information about the principal’s performance for this purpose. NANP members are contracted by the Ministry of Education to provide a service to Community of Learning selection panels and to support appraisal, review and reappointment of people in these roles.
