Effective governance - Keeping your records straight
As a board, you play a vital role in leading the future direction and performance of your school and good record keeping is an important part of that role.
- helps the board manage its work;
- helps protect the board from legal liability;
- helps the board meet formal, legal requirements under a number of Acts; and
- is an essential reference and source of information for future boards.
This resource explains each of these reasons further and offers some practical suggestions about how to keep good records.
These guidelines have been developed by the Ministry of Education and NZSTA as part of the family of Effective Governance resources for school boards to help trustees understand their governance role and how to fulfil the responsibilities that go with it.
