Subject: Amalgamating Supplementary Learning Support (SLS) and RTLB Services

Purpose:  The Ministry of Education is amalgamating the Supplementary Learning Support (SLS) and Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) services.  This memo provides advice on making submissions on that process and what the staffing implications may be for those currently employing SLS.

A discussion document outlining two proposed options for amalgamating the SLS and RTLB services has been placed on the Te Kete Ipurangi (TKI) website http://rtlb.tki.org.nz/. The discussion document and the feedback form are available at SLS and RTLB amalgamation discussion document.

The Ministry are asking for individuals and groups with an interest in the amalgamation of these services to send their feedback to the Ministry by post, email or fax by 5.00 pm, Thursday 31 May 2012.

Staffing impact:  For those currently employing SLS staff, once a final decision has been made by the Ministry we will provided advice on what is required to follow the provisions of the collective agreement in terms of process.  Please ensure that your SLS are aware of the consultation currently underway.
