Lisa Collinson
Parent elected trustee at Koputaroa School, Levin
Lisa will undertake a Masters in Education thesis study on the effects of an EPF funded, systems level intervention by RTLB, that enables a wrap-around SENCO service to all of the schools in Horowhenua. She is looking for whether or not having a staff member at the school in the role of a Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) positively impacts on the outcomes for special needs students in the school. If boards are considering SENCO positions they need to have the data to make informed decisions about these issues.
Glen Delamere
Parent elected trustee at Hamilton East
Paul is undertaking Bachelor of Management Studies papers on communicating across cultures, management communication and managing organisational communication. He sees these studies as providing an excellent grounding with regards to management and understanding board related matters.
Trevor Gill
Parent elected trustee at Pukekohe High School
Trevor plans to participate in a five day, live-in, company directors' course. This course provides a complete understanidng of the role, duties and knowledge requirements for directorship in NZ and has been developed specifically to meet the current and emerging needs of those who have received little formal training for their role as a director. He sees good governance as a product of experience, training and personal development. He is dedicated to the advancement of education and sees informal directors' training as an important step in his development as a trustee.
Judith Logan
Parent elected trustee at Tauranga Girls' College
Judith is undertaking a research programme on the role of student trustees on the board of trustees. She will review and make recommendations based on evidence and data on the effectiveness and outcome of the current model with regard to student trustees and student voice.
Philip Voss
Parent elected trustee at Albany Primary School and Albany Senior High School
Philip will undertake a research project on the role of trustees in fostering knowledge-creating schools. This project will develop a better understanding of the governance roles and responsibilities needed to foster the move to knowledge-creating schools. His goal is to help build capability within the school trustee community so that boards throughout NZ are able to play the most effective part possible in preparing our young people for life in a knowledge society.
