Impact of earthquake on boards funding and staffing

The Ministry of Education, NZSTA and NZEI and PPTA are working on various ways to support boards and employees.

Roll changes in the wake of the Canterbury earthquakes mean some schools in greater Christchurch will need to adjust their staffing for the 2012 year.

The Ministry of Education, NZSTA and NZEI and PPTA have agreed to enhanced provisions for teachers whose positions have been disestablished.

  • These include a new relief pool [PDF: 290KB] which will give a supernumerary teacher, who opts in, 40 weeks continuing employment.
  • There is also provision for the payment of certain course costs for teachers who elect the retraining option.
  • Mentoring for both teachers and principals and counselling support for all staff and board members is also available.
