In line with our mission to lead and strengthen school governance in New Zealand, Te Whakarōputanga provides a number of services, as part of our contracted services with the Ministry of Education. Unlike Te Whakarōputanga’s membership-only activities our core services are available to all state and state-integrated schools, whether or not they are members.

Advisory & Support Centre (ASC)

Te Whakarōputanga’s confidential Advisory & Support Centre (ASC) is staffed by a team of both employment and governance advisors. The service is open 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Our advisors have a range of board experience, employment and legal backgrounds and are well equipped to handle your queries about any issues that may arise in your role as a school board member.

The ASC is also your first point of contact for our specialist employment and governance advisors out in the field.

Regional advice and support

Te Whakarōputanga employs a team of employment and governance advisors based in our three regions who provide free and confidential employment and governance advice and support to all boards and principals. Our advisors are all experienced practitioners with extensive experience in dealing with employment and governance matters.

Learning, resources and professional development

Te Whakarōputanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa's role is to lead and strengthen school governance and to support schools with employment matters.

One way we do this is by providing all boards with free access to our suite of governance and employment resources, learning and development opportunities which include our:

  • Resource Centre
  • Learning Centre
  • Learning events
  • Customised learning
Communications

Presiding members (board chairs) and principals receive regular email memos on current issues and relevant information.

Te Whakarōputanga also produces or co-produces a number of publications that are distributed to all boards, such as Collective Agreements and Good Practice Guidelines.

Emergency Staffing Scheme (ESS)

Since 1995 Te Whakarōputanga has administered the Emergency Staffing Scheme (ESS) on contract to the Ministry of Education. The ESS scheme continues to fill a significant role in providing "last resort" emergency staffing cover for mainly small schools which are experiencing difficulties in replacing or providing temporary cover for a principal.

Additional services for members

Te Whakarōputanga also provides a range of member-only benefits.
