About the role

The Executive Assistant (Membership and Advocacy) is a role dedicated to the coordination of key membership and advocacy activities for the Office of the President. This position holds the responsibility of being the primary contact for NZSTA members and key sector agencies who have business and/or relationships with the NZSTA President.

You will be responsible for providing proactive, high level executive assistance primarily to the President. Key responsibilities include being point of contact, coordination and support of membership activities, providing secretariat support to various reference groups and committees, drafting submissions and membership publications related to advocacy for our members, and support for events such as our annual conference and AGM.  Core to your role will be making sure the President is always prepared, acting as their trusted advisor, and providing assurance and timeliness.

This is a varied role that will draw on your organisational, relationship management and secretariat skills. You are proactive, intuitive, always one step ahead and have an ability to connect the dots and spot opportunities.

You will have strong interpersonal skills, incredibly strong attention to detail and be solutions focused.

This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours per week), based on Lambton Quay, Wellington Central.

About you

  • Proven primary liaison, coordination, and secretariat experience in a similar environment
  • High standard of verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Capability to self-manage and prioritise work to ensure deadlines can be met
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Display a willingness to learn, develop and maintain knowledge and skills
  • Intermediate to advance knowledge of MS Suite and working with databases
  • Understanding of and commitment to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori, including comfort in a reo Māori
