We’re looking for a talented, high-energy person to deliver HR and Employment Relations advice and support to Principals and School Boards.

New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) is a not for profit and membership-based national organisation representing the interests of its member boards.

NZSTA is the most influential leader of effective school governance in Aotearoa, embodying the intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Job Summary

Reporting to the Director Service Delivery, you will be a seasoned employment professional with experience working in a fast paced and changing environment supporting multiple stakeholders.

As Regional Advisor Employment, you will partner with school leaders across the full raft of school environments. You will deliver end to end HR solutions, advice and support. Any day could see you advise on relationship building techniques, recruitment, performance management, conduct issues, health and safety or co-design a restructure proposal or attend mediation.  A truly diverse role.

In addition to problem solving via robust processes, you will be involved in designing and delivering workshops aimed at problem prevention and best practice management of all things HR and Employment Relations.

The role places you as the conduit between Principals (as CEOs of schools) and unions on a regular basis, enabling you to demonstrate your strong relationship building skills.

You will be surrounded with supportive HR and employment law talent, both as part of a national team and as part of a regional team of 12. The culture is an open one of asking questions, sharing areas of expertise and learning and growing together, ensuring quality and consistency of advice.

  • a person who can demonstrate sound understanding and application of employment law, leadership and HR practice
  • a tertiary qualification in related field or equivalent in experience
  • a confident relationship builder
  • a helpful, outcomes-oriented person who likes being in front of people
  • someone who can work with conflict, persuade others and lead strategies to resolve problems
  • a clear and concise communicator, with great writing skills
  • a kind, caring and supportive team member
  • someone who is passionate about enabling and supporting others
  • understanding of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, including comfort in te reo Māori environment.

Our office is in Hamilton and there is flexibility to work from home. There will be regular travel required to support schools in the central North Island and a requirement to attend team meetings in the Hamilton office and full staff meetings in our national office based in Wellington. A work vehicle will form part of your remuneration package.
