If you have just become a school trustee, congratulations and welcome to the world of school governance and trusteeship! | Nau mai ki to ao Kāwana me te tiaki kura!
All the terms and processes can seem a bit overwhelming, but the good news is that NZSTA is here to help and support you and your board of trustees.
Start your trustee journey by having a look at the services NZSTA provides to all trustees. They include our Advisory and Support Centre and professional development. View Advice and Support.
As a new trustee and to make full use of NZSTA services make sure you register. You can do this via Appendix 2 (Change in Membership of Board of Trustees).
If your board is a member of NZSTA, then upon completion of Appendix 2 you should shortly receive a welcome pack with a complementary copy of Trusteeship – a guide for school trustees. Or you can download a copy here.
Once registered via Appendix 2 you can also access face to face professional development workshops run across the country. We strongly encourage all new trustees to attend our Governance Essentials workshop 1. Likewise, we encourage returning trustees to attend Governance Essentials 2. Attending these and other workshops in our professional development programme will help you to quickly come up to speed about your governance role, including your employer role. Watch out for more information on the website and via NZSTA to your board in the coming weeks and after the School Trustee Elections 2019.
